I’ve had the next book in my design team round robin sitting on the dining room cabinet for almost a month now, because Livia lost her mind and mailed it to me after only having it for a week. I tried very hard not to think about it while I was working on Liv’s book.
So, Peace’s book is called A Little Book of Witch Queens, and she’s asked us to do artwork about any witch queen we’d like to imagine. I knew right away that I wanted to do something about the Witch Queen of Bad Hair Days, and played with various ways to execute a layout. Finally, I started thinking about the wild-haired circus performer photos I’ve seen, and flipping through my circus folder, I found these two pics I snagged from who knows where. They’re of twin albino girls with amazing long white hair. I did a little tweaking in PhotoShop to get the contrasting hair styles and heighten the black and white outfits, then sat in front of the TV and played with some new paper punches. Eventually, I came up with this layout.
