As I mentioned in previous posts, my former student Nicole talked me into taking a one day encaustic class with her at a local community college. We spent most of Saturday playing with wax, learning different techniques and formulas for mixing and applying wax pigments. Even though I’ve done tons of wax collage, I’ve never actually painted with wax before, so this class was an adventure. I came away with lots of new information, which I hope to put to use in the coming months. I also managed to conquer two different ways of doing transfers onto wax, which I’d tried before but never quite achieved.

My other big achievement this week was to build a new trellis in my vegetable garden. I usually keep my gardening stuff confined to another blog, but seriously, I made art with wood and wire last weekend, so you should go peek. I can’t wait to plant fall cucumbers and see them twine their way up and over. Bonus: that’s 16 square feet fewer weeds to mow…
